The admin, rebuilt with views, tabs and windows

The admin moves onto the learner app’s shell with one search, five ways to view a list, and records you can open in tabs, side panes or their own windows; micro-lessons get full authoring; and the account emails are rebranded.

Changelog

The admin, rebuilt with views, tabs and windows

Released on 19 and 20 October.

Learners and admins now share one rail, sidebar and header, on the learner app’s colours. ⌘K opens one search for both, with scopes for pages, learning, admin pages, content and people, each shown only to the roles allowed to use it. The admin home opens on what needs attention, then the nine areas with their counts, a map of your content, recent activity and what you were building.

Lists you can view five ways

Paths, modules, domains, assessments, quizzes and events can be viewed as a table, cards, a board, a timeline or a chart, wherever the data fits. On a board you can drag a path’s modules between stages, archive and restore, and publish a domain. The other 25 or so admin lists get table and card views with a filter panel. Archiving a module is refused while a live path still uses it, so learners never meet a module they cannot open.

Tabs, side panes and windows

Records open in tabs across the top of the admin. ⌘-click opens one in the background and ⌘⇧-click opens it beside the current page in a pane you can resize. Every row menu can also open a record in its own window, or peek at it read-only with Space. Your tabs are saved to your account and stay in sync between windows, and a record open in two windows is editable in one of them, with Take over in the other.

Micro-lessons, end to end

Admins write micro-lessons in a rich-text editor in English and Arabic, add a quiz (single choice, multiple choice or true or false, with explanations and a pass mark), preview them as a learner, and publish, archive or restore them. A micro-lesson can sit in a path as a step, required or not, or be recommended when a learner reaches a point. Learners see a For you card on Today and recommendations in the player, which they can open, snooze or dismiss. Required steps count toward progress, and the player waits until they are done.

Also in this release

Added

  • Today sets your daily study target in minutes from a weekly hours goal, and the player shows it as a minutes bar.
  • Journal articles can carry interactive figures, which run in a sandbox and follow the reader’s light or dark theme.
  • Admins can see the live email templates under Templates.

Changed

  • The 11 account emails (verification, password reset, welcome and the rest) carry the fkra lockup, an icon for each email and a green button.
  • The home page hero leads with free learning for individuals, Start learning free, and an audience switcher for business, academia, agencies and creators.
  • The Today track details only the current stage and collapses the rest.
  • The sign-in page’s brand side is a calm particle network.

Fixed

  • Journal articles over about 100 KB could not be saved.
  • The editor showed interactive figures as empty boxes, and an edit that deleted them was saved without warning. Figures now run in the editor, and such an edit asks first.
